reasons for doing that were (1) There was no floor space to

accommodate more clerks. (2) I was convinced that any further

assistance I got would be temporary clerks and I had not got the

time to teach them their work.

One evening Mr. Fo. rest took me to the Gloucester Hotel at

7 p.m. for a drink and to talk thinge over. Mr. Forrest was seriously concerned for my health as at one time I had been

suspected of tuberculosis. Mr. Forrest pressed me to get sone-

one to relieve to volume of work I had to do and asked me to

bring in any friends or relatives whon I conlê trust.
